Quinoa, Black Bean, and Avocado Salad

I know - I'm over-doing it with the quinoa lately. I have a lot in my pantry and I'm trying to get rid of it, and I am trying really, really hard to eat healthy-ish.  With Caracas Arepas Bar and Milk Truck lurking nearby, it is pretty hard, but I've been doing okay.

Quinoa Pilaf

While I was waiting for my Physique class to start, I was flipping through the Physique 57 Solution book. I saw some inspirational recipes - including one similar to the recipe below for quinoa pilaf.

When I got home, I searched for some recipes for quinoa pilaf and came up with a hodge podge of results. I mixed and matched ingredients that I already had at home. Super easy!

A Healthy-ish Brunch

I went home to visit my family for the weekend, which is always a nice treat. I get to play with my cute little puppy, his dog-girlfriend, and I also get to eat yummy, healthy, home made food that doesn't come pre-packaged from Trader Joe's or Seamless Web.

Oysters and a Bachelorette in New Orleans

My best friend Avani was celebrating her bachelorette in New Orleans. BEIGNETS! OYSTERS! PO'BOYS! Oh, and bachelorette shenanigans too.

In earth shattering news, I think I've converted from raw oysters to broiled oysters, all thanks to New Orleans. Details to follow below!

Hopping Across the Pond

Time to go to London to play with my friends! The last time I was in London was in 2005, when I was studying abroad. My student visa happened to be the first stamp I received in my grown up passport. And now that my passport is due for renewal, this stamp at Heathrow would be my last one in this passport. #memories #nostalgia.

It is March and I am wearing shorts!

I went to LA the first weekend in March to visit Asmi. It was approximately 4pm PST on a Friday, and I was wearing shorts on the beach and riding the ferris wheel (you know, the one that was in the OC). Later that week, back in NYC, there was a blizzard. #unfair.

Perfect Grilled Cheese

Happy March! Does this mean it is spring yet?

Recently, I went to a cool lecture on the history of sandwiches, put on by the Masters of Social Gastronomy.  The presenters, Sarah Lohman of Four Pound Flour, and Jonathan Soma delved into how the sandwich came to be, what creates the subway smell, and, most importantly, the best way to make a grilled cheese sandwich.
